For floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) or floating storage and offloading (FSO) installations there are often requirements for an independent body to confirm compliance with shelf state requirements as well as compliance with classification, statutory and EU directives.
DNV developed a process tool to ensure shelf state regulations (i.e. activity-based verification) and classification are efficiently combined. The compliance process is simplified throughout the project lifecycle and guidance is provided on the optimum project setup for maximum efficiency.
Outcome and benefits
A single third party covers the entire project, minimizing the number of interfaces.
Total regulatory compliance will achieve:
- Both scopes, i.e. classification and verification, are combined in an optimal way that works with the client schedule
- Costs are reduced by using one team to cover all the regulatory compliance scopes at once
- Wherever possible, the DNV approach is standardized by using tools such as a safety and environmental critical elements (SECE) map and the base case verification scheme
- The approach can be applied to all floating units, whether they are newly built or due for relocation.
